FAU Navy Miami and Memphis prepping for home bowl games

Sometime late Friday afternoon, Florida Atlantic will load up its luggage and head south to the hotel that will house the Conference USA champions for their bowl-game preparations. The comforts of home await the Owls this weekend as they get ready to play in the Boca Raton Bowl, and they're hardly the only team in America that won't be seeing a new part of the country as part of the postseason perk package. FAU, Miami, Navy and Memphis are playing bowl games on their home fields, and five other teams — six if Georgia makes the College Football Playoff title game — will play bowls in their home states. "A chance to stay home is really special, basically to have another home game," said FAU coach Lane Kiffin, whose Owls will essentially "host" Akron in the Boca Raton Bowl.

4-star QB Matt Corral commits to Ole Miss

Four-star 2018 QB Matt Corral, of Long Beach Poly in California, has made up his mind about where he’ll be playing his college ball. The signal caller who was a Florida verbal commitment since June announced on Tuesday evening that he is now committed to Ole Miss. The news comes as a bit of a surprise, but given the coaching change Florida went through in hiring Dan Mullen, this was an obvious possibility. Now, Florida’s 2018 class is without a quarterback, which means Mullen and his staff will have to make it a priority to fill that void with the early signing period coming next week. Punter Sam Loy leaving program

Since the end of the regular season, backup QB Jacob Free and part-time starting OL Bailey Granier have announced that they are leaving the Vanderbilt football program. Add Sam Loy to the list. Vanderbilt’s sophomore punter announced on Thursday night via Twitter that he would be leaving the program. Loy signed with Vanderbilt in the 2016 recruiting class and became Vanderbilt’s punter practically from day one. In 2017, Loy punted 64 times for an average of 40.2 yards, with eight of 50 yards or more and 14 landing inside the opponent’s 20-yard line. It’s not clear what Vanderbilt will do at the position in 2018 now. Walk-on Ryley Guay is the only kicker returning, and he’s primarily a placekicker;
